A pair of developers gave Ocean Beach its name back in the 1800s, and proceeded to lay the foundation for what the community has become today. In the early 20th century, the northern end of Ocean Beach was home to Wonderland Amusement Park, which remained a popular attraction until being washed away in 1916. When streetcars and an extensive public transit system surfaced, the area became largely residential and remains so today.
